Frequently asked questions

Is this good for gifting?

Absolutely! Truffle Seasoning is one of our most gifted products, and it works for anyone who cooks, which is most people.

Do you use real truffle in your truffle infused olives?

Yes. We use real truffle to create an essence, which is then infused into extra virgin olive oil to produce their distinctive truffle flavour.

What is the difference between Truffle Oil, Truffle Seasoning and Truffle Sea Salt?

Truffle oil is a liquid finishing oil, drizzled over food after cooking. Truffle seasoning is a dry spice blend containing real truffle alongside natural spices, used for shaking directly onto food. Truffle salt is a two-ingredient product: real truffle and Marlborough flaky sea salt, used as a finishing salt. Each has a distinct use case, and many customers use all three for different purposes.

Can you cook with truffle oil?

Truffle oil is best used as a finishing oil. High heat can reduce its distinctive aroma and flavour, so add it immediately before serving rather than using it as your primary cooking oil.

Does Kiwi Artisan truffle oil contain real truffle?

Yes. The Black Truffle Olive Oil contains real black truffle - you can see the truffle pieces in the bottle. The oil is designed for a well-rounded, balanced flavour that's rich and earthy without being overpowering.

How do you use truffle oil?

Truffle oil is best used as a finishing oil, added after cooking rather than during. Drizzle a small amount over pasta, scrambled eggs, chips, risotto, pizza, roasted mushrooms, mashed potato, or sourdough just before serving. It also works well stirred through salad dressings. Start with around half a teaspoon and taste - a little goes a long way.

Are the olives pitted?

No. All of our olives contain their pits, just as nature intended. Keeping the olives whole helps them retain their flavour and firm, satisfying texture.

I don't usually like olives. Should I try these?

Yes, and this is one of the most common things we hear. "I don't even like olives and I love these" comes up consistently across reviews. The key difference is the brine-free format: most people who find olives too salty or sharp are reacting to the brine, not to the olive itself. These taste significantly different from anything brine-packed.

Are the olives suitable for platters and gifting?

Definitely. They’re the antidote to sad, forgettable platter brined olives and can easily become the star of a grazing board. They also make a fantastic gift for food lovers, hosts and anyone who appreciates bold, artisan flavours.

Can I use the oil left in the olive packet?

Yes, and it's worth saving. The infused oil takes on the full flavour of whatever the olives were paired with, making it a premium dipping oil, salad dressing base, or bread dipper once the olives are gone. It's one of the things customers discover after their first packet.

Do the olives need to be refrigerated after opening?

Yes. We recommend refrigerating the olives after opening. The oil may become cloudy, develop white spots or partially solidify when chilled, but this is a completely normal reaction to cold temperatures - not mould or spoilage. Allow the jar to return to room temperature before serving and the oil will gradually become liquid again.

What oils do you use for your infused olives?

We use olive oil for all of our infused olive flavours except the chilli olives, which use rice bran oil.

Do your olives contain garlic or onion?

Our chilli olives contain garlic and onion. Our other infused olive flavours do not contain garlic or onion. Always check the product label for the complete and most current ingredient information.

Are your olives gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan?

Yes. All of our olive products are gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan. They are also suitable for coeliacs.
